The Pre-Dawn Horizon is a single movement orchestral piece meant to capture the feeling of anticipation one experiences while waiting for the arrival of something inevitable, yet whose manifestation is prolonged beyond the observer’s expectations. Initial feelings of excitement are met with disappointment, confusion, and frustration as something that seems to be imminent continually delays its own onset, seemingly without reason.

I initially conceived of this piece as a way to deal with my own dissatisfaction with the current political landscape. I had to believe that the pendulum would swing back in the opposite direction, and while there have been hints, such a swing has yet to fully occur. The piece resolves in a state of delicate balance: a small spark of hope looming on the horizon, yet without assurance or stability. What happens next remains to be seen.
